Zanni et al used the Functional Status Score the Intensive Care Unit (FSS-ICU) to evaluate the functional status for patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). The authors are from the Johns Hopkins University.


Patient selection: adult patient in the ICU who required mechanical ventilation

 

Preambulation categories:

(1) rolling

(2) supine-to-sit transfer

(3) unsupported sitting

 

Ambulation categories:

(1) sit-to-stand transfer

(2) ambulation

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 35

• The higher the score the better the functional status.
