Description

Olerud and Molander developed a functional rating scale for patients who have had an ankle fracture. This can be used to monitor a patient over time and to evaluate the impact of different interventions. The authors are from Uppsala and Falum in Sweden.

Parameters:

(1) pain

(2) stiffness

(3) swelling

(4) stair-climbing

(5) running

(6) jumping

(7) squatting

(8) supports

(9) work and activities of daily living

score =

= SUM(points for all 9 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 100

• The higher the score, the better the functional ability.

• Patients with osteoarthritis and dislocations tend to have a lower score than those without these findings.
