Description

The Functional Living Index - Cancer (FLIC) is a measure to estimate the quality of life of patients with cancer. It allows a quick and easily repeated self-evaluation of a patient over time, and can be used to assess the patient's response to therapy.


 

The instrument consists of 22 questions.

 

Answering:

(1) The patient is to mark his or her response along a continuous scale ranging from 1 to 7.

(2) Responses between the numbers are rounded upwards or downwards to the nearest whole number.

 

Scoring:

(1) Some questions (2, 3, 6 9, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22) have responses with the rightmost answer indicating the most positive level of response. The score given is (response value).

(2) The remaining questions (1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 13, 15, 17, 20) have response with the rightmost answer having the most negative level of response. The score given is (8 - (response value))

 

Interpretation:

• maximum score: 154

• minimum score: 22
