Description

Hattori et al reported a formula for predicting the serum LDL-apobetalipoprotein concentration. This can be useful in making the diagnosis of hyperapobetalipoproteinemia. The authors are from the National Cardiovascular Centre in Osaka, Japan.

Parameters:

(1) serum total cholesterol concentration in mg/dL

(2) serum HDL-cholesterol in concentration mg/dL

(3) serum triglyceride concentration in mg/dL

(4) serum apobetalipoprotein (apo B) concentration in mg/dL

serum LDL-apo B in mg/dL =

= (apoB in mg/dL) - (0.09 * (serum total cholesterol)) + (0.09 * (serum HDL cholesterol)) - (0.08 * (serum triglyceride))

Interpretation:

• In hyperapobetalipoproteinemia, the serum LDL cholesterol concentration is normal and the serum LDL-apo B is increased.
