Description

A person who eats the same food over and over again may become tired of eating it.


Synonym: food boredom

 

Food fatigue needs to be distinguished from sleepiness (fatigue) after eating.

 

People at risk for food fatigue:

(1) person on a restricted diet for medicinal purposes (dialysis, metabolic disorder, etc)

(2) person on a restricted diet as part of an eating disorder

(3) speed eater with a monotonous food

(4) someone who is poor with limited food resources

(5) someone in a war or disaster with limited food resources

 

Consequences may include:

(1) poor adherence to restrictions

(2) lack of appetite and not eating

(3) risk for malnutrition if diet not balanced or supplemented
