One response to an active shooter situation is to evacuate the site.
It is prudent to be aware of the emergency exits for any building that you are in.
Immediate steps:
(1) Quickly develop an escape plan.
(2) Leave belongings behind. Take your cell phone if possible.
(3) Go even if this means going alone.
(4) Help others if possible. Do not attempt to move a wounded person.
(5) Warn others about the location of the shooter.
When away from the area of immediate danger:
(1) Keep your hands visible and empty.
(2) Follow the instructions of any police officers.
(3) Call 911 when in a safe area.
