Description

The release of a chemical toxin will have a number of effects on its environment. These effects may be the first indication to an observer that an incident has taken place.


 

A preceding event may include:

(1) unscheduled or unusual spraying

(2) transportation accident

(3) industrial explosion or accident

 

Findings that may be a manifestation of the release of a chemical toxin:

(1) dead animals, birds and/or fish

(2) unexpected absence of insect activity

(3) sick or dying people

(4) people or animals with unexplained rash or skin blistering

(5) withered or discolored vegetation

(6) odors that are unusual or out of character for the surroundings

(7) distribution of casualties related to wind direction

(8) low-lying fog or clouds

(9) unusual liquid droplets or metallic debris
