Description

Certain imaging findings in a patient with an embolic or thrombotic stroke may indicate a poor prognosis.


 

Vascular findings associated with a poor prognosis:

(1) bilateral occlusion of the vertebral arteries

(2) occlusion of the basilar artery

 

Hemispheric findings associated with a poor prognosis:

(1) large bihemispheric infarcts

(2) large anterior infarct with both cortical and subcortical involvement
