Description

Yan et al used a number of clinical findings to distinguish a Zika infection from Dengue Fever. The authors are from the National University Health System and Tan Tock Seng Hospital in Singapore.

Findings associated with Zika virus infection:

(1) conjunctivitis

(2) normal platelet count

(3) normal monocyte count

The AUC under the ROC curve was 0.95 for the model with all 3 of these parameters.

A rash may be a common finding in Zika in some outbreaks.

Findings associated with dengue:

(1) myalgia

(2) headache

In more serious dengue cases thrombocytopenia, elevated AST and ALT, and monocytosis are seen.
