Bardet Biedl Syndrome is a ciliopathy with developmental anomalies. A male with Bardet Biedl Syndrome may show impaired reproduction.
Genitourinary malformations may include:
(1) cryptorchidism
(2) short scrotum
(3) micropenis
(4) agenesis of a seminal vesicle
(5) urogenital cysts
Most adult males have normal sex hormone levels and a normal sperm count. A few men may have hypogonadism.
Impaired reproduction is most often linked to decreased self-confidence associated with disease status (obesity, blindness, anomalies).
It is important to work up an infertile male who wishes children since there may be:
(1) oligospermia
(2) impaired motility
