A range of genital injuries may occur when a woman engages in certain water sports.
Water sports that can result in female genital injury:
(1) water skiing with fall at high speed
(2) jet ski (associated with the water jet)
(3) water chute
Genital injuries may include:
(1) vaginal laceration or perforation
(2) partial avulsion of the uterine cervix
Risk factors:
(1) high speed or high pressure
(2) using a tampon
(3) failing to wear protective clothing over swimsuit (just wearing a single layer of fabric)
