Description

Glutaric Aciduria Type I (GA-I) is a rare inherited metabolic disorder of amino acid catabolism. It is important to control lysine intake in the diet, especially in infants and young children.

The core of nutrition for an infant is breastfeeding when possible.

intake of lysine in mg from breastmilk =

= 0.86 * (breastmilk intake in mL)

In addition, formula feedings with low lysine content can be used to supplement the diet. This should be tryptophan-reduced and contain essential amino acids.

intake of lysine in mg from formula =

= (lysine content in mg/dL) * (volume of formula in mL) / 100

If the infant has a feeding problem, then a metabolic dietician should be consulted.
