A failed state (collapsed state) is one that is unable to function (absolute dysfunction).
Areas of failure:
(1) inability to maintain security over its territory and borders (international security)
(2) inability to maintain law and order (domestic security)
(3) absence of essential goods and services
(4) absence of a functional economy
(5) absence of leadership, direction, cohesion or purpose (social identity)
As a result of the failed state there may be:
(1) high levels of violence and lawlessness
(2) poverty
(3) chaos
(4) starvation
(5) outbreaks of disease
(6) fear and distrust
(7) lack of morality
(8) lack of rights
(9) lack of a currency
