Distinguishing hypoxic hepatitis from other types of hepatitis can be challenging.
Findings suggesting hypoxic hepatitis:
(1) presence of hypoxic injury in other organs, including acute tubular necrosis that causes an early rise in serum creatinine
(2) an early rapid rise in serum LDH
(3) a ratio of serum ALT to LDH < 1.5
(4) a rapid rise in ALT and AST followed by a rapid decline following appropriate management
