Description

A preferential child molester, or pedophile, can be recognized based on certain characteristics.


 

Features of a preferential child molester:

(1) definite sexual preference for children, including sexual fantasies and erotic imagery

(2) lifestyle allows access to children

(3) collects child pornography and erotica

(4) may have other sexual deviations (paraphilias)

(5) has a high level of fixation

 

High level of fixation involves one or more of the following:

(1) 3 or more sexual encounters with a single victim over a time interval > 6 months (recurring over a significant period of time)

(2) evidence of an ongoing relationship with victims, spending a significant amount of time in their proximity, exclusive of sexual assault (high contact)

(3) has contacted and molested multiple children over lifetime
