Intraosseous infusion may be associated with fat emboli.


Patient selection: intraosseous infusion

 

The pressure of the infusion may play a role in the pathogenesis.

 

Sites of emboli:

(1) brain

(2) lung

(3) distal extremities

(4) kidneys

 

The diagnosis may be difficult if there are other causes of fat emboli:

(1) long bone fracture

(2) cardiopulmonary resuscitation
