Failure to adhere to diagnostic criteria can result in a false positive diagnosis of Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP).
When to suspect a false positive diagnosis of CIDP:
(1) failure to meet EFNS/PNS (European Federation of Neurological Societies/Peripheral Nerve Society) electrodiagnostic criteria
(2) failure to exclude other causes of demyelinating neuropathy
(3) CSF cytoalbuminologic dissociation with a low elevation in CSF protein
(4) a patient classified as atypical without any of the trademark clinical characteristics of CIDP
