Description

Aaronson et al identified factors impacting the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of a patient with a low-grade glioma. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from interventions to improve QOL. The authors are from the Netherlands Cancer Institute, Vrije Universiteit Medical Center and St. Elisabeth Hospital in the Netherlands.


 

Patient selection: low grade glioma

 

Important factors impacting QOL:

(1) female gender

(2) epilepsy burden (related to degree of control and medication side effects)

(3) neurocognitive deficits (memory, concentration)

 

Other factors to consider:

(1) poor role functioning

(2) motor dysfunction

(3) communication deficit

(4) headache

(5) depression

(6) concern about health

(7) visual disorder

(8) fatigue and low energy levels
