Description

A man with lead poisoning may develop sexual dysfunction. In addition, the man may be subfertile.


 

Factors associated with sexual dysfunction in a male with lead poisoning:

(1) autonomic neuropathy

(2) peripheral neuropathy

(3) encephalopathy

(4) deposition of lead into the corpora cavernosa

(5) nephropathy

(6) hypertension

(7) treatment with drugs associated with erectile dysfunction

(8) general fatigue

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) A man with impotence who takes an Indian or Chinese remedy containing heavy metals.

 

Therapy should include:

(1) Prevention of further exposure to lead.

(2) Consideration of chelation therapy.
