Description

A man with hereditary hemochromatosis may develop impotence. Early removal of excess iron is associated with less organ damage and an improved prognosis.


 

Factors contributing to the development of sexual dysfunction:

(1) diabetes mellitus

(2) cirrhosis

(3) heart failure associated with cardiomyopathy

(4) hypogonadism with low free serum testosterone

(5) concurrent alcohol abuse

(6) medications

(7) depression or other psychogenic factors

(8) fatigue secondary to end-organ dysfunction
