Wasp or hornet stings can result in acute renal failure.
Risk factors for acute renal failure:
(1) multiple stings
(2) allergy to the wasp or hornet
(3) history of renal failure in the past due to wasp or hornet sting
Causes of renal injury:
(1) rhabdomyolysis (with tubular damage)
(2) hemolysis (with tubular damage)
(3) serum sickness (with glomerular damage)
(4) interstitial nephritis
(5) toxic/allergic tubulopathy
(6) ischemic (including shock associated with anaphylaxis)
