Even minimal hepatic encephalopathy may impact a patient's quality of life.


Factors affecting the quality of life for a patient with hepatic encephalopathy:

(1) history of falls in previous year

(2) depression

(3) cognitive impairment

(4) hyponatremia and other metabolic consequences of cirrhosis

(5) female sex

(6) social isolation

(7) disability

(8) poor sleep quality

 

A patient with hepatic encephalopathy should be screened for quality of life, especially if risk factors.
