Hwang et al correlated involvement of extranodal sites with outcome in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). This can supplement other prognostic scores. The authors are from University of Ulsan and Asan Medical Center in Seoul, Korea.
Significant extranodal sites:
(1) liver
(2) lung (left and right counted as 1)
(3) spleen
(4) central nervous system
(5) bone marrow
(6) kidney (left and right counted as 1)
(7) skin
(8) adrenal glands (left and right counted as 1)
(9) peritoneum
number of extranodal sites involved =
= SUM(sites involved)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 9
• A patient with 2 or more sites involved had a worse overall survival and progression-free survival.
