The 2020 International Alliance for the Control of Scabies listed exposures that are associated with a high risk for scabies transmission.
High-risk exposures:
(1) any contact with a person with crusted scabies
(2) close contact with a person diagnosed with scabies
(3) close contact with a person with typical lesions with a typical distribution for scabies, with no other explanation
Potentially high-risk exposure:
(1) close contact with a person with chronic itch not accounted for by another condition
Close contact - one or more of the following:
(1) sleep in the same dwelling
(2) share a bed
(3) adults with known skin-to-skin contact (healthcare workers, sports, other)
(4) children in the same classroom or who play closely together
