Description

A school may list criteria for when a student should be excluded because of findings that may indicate that the student has a contagious disease.


Reasons for exclusion:

(1) temperature >= 100°F

(2) pain and/or swelling at angle of the jaw

(3) undetermined rash over any part of the body

(4) undiagnosed scaly patches on the body or scalp

(5) nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

(6) red eye with drainage

(7) intense itching with signs of secondary infection

(8) open, draining skin lesion

(9) jaundice

 

Criteria for return to school - any of the following:

(1) The student is completely free of symptoms and is no longer contagious.

(1a) Fever-free for 24 hours without antipyretic medications.

(1b) Diarrhea-free for at least 24 hours without antidiarrheal medications.

(2) The student has been successfully treated.

(3) A physician states that the student is no longer contagious.
