EULAR/PReS reported criteria for the diagnosis of Kawasaki Disease in a pediatric patient.


Patient selection: pediatric patient with vasculitis

 

Criteria for the diagnosis - both of the following:

(1) fever for >= 5 days

(2) 4 or more of the following:

(2a) changes in the peripheral extremities or perineal area

(2b) polymorphous exanthema

(2c) bilateral conjunctival injection

(2d) changes in the lips and oral cavity with injection of oral and pharyngeal mucosa

(2e) cervical lymphadenopathy

 

where:

• According to the AHA criteria changes in the peripheral extremities included redness and swelling in the acute phase followed by periungual desquamation in the subacute phase.

• According to the AHA criteria changes in oral mucosa included strawberry tongue; erythema of the pharynx; erythematous, dry and fissured lips.

• Involvement of the perineal area is an additional finding.

 

In the presence of coronary artery disease (by echocardiography or other method) "fewer" than 4 of the variable criteria (2a to 2e) may be sufficient for the diagnosis. A precise number was to be determined.
