Description

The annual mortality rate for a population of patients can be estimated from the survival curve if it has a declining exponential pattern.

average annual mortality rate =

= (-1) * (1/ (time period in years)) * LN (fraction surviving at end of time period)

If the median survival is known, then:

average annual mortality rate =

= 0.693 / (median survival period in years)
