Peng et al developed equations for estimating the height and weight of Chinese adults using simple anthropometric measurements.
Subjects: 1,532 males and 1,753 females with ages from under 20 to over 80 years.
Measurements:
(1) knee height in cm
(2) hip circumference in cm
(3) mid arm circumference in cm
(4) age in years
Females
body height in cm =
= (2.2871 * (knee height in cm)) – (0.0741 * (age in years)) + 52.0334
NOTE: In the article the constant given is "2.0334", However, when this is used for the mean values in Table 3 (page 329) a height of only 106 cm is returned vs the mean height of 155 cm. If the mean data for males is entered in the equation below, then a value very close to the mean height is returned.
body weight in kilograms =
= (1.0831 * (mid arm circumference in cm)) + (0.8203 * (hip circumference in cm)) – 51.3536
where:
• R^2 for height is 0.7691
• R^2 for weight is 0.8679
Males
body height in cm =
= (2.4163 * (knee height in cm)) – (0.0694 * (age in years)) + 48.5233
body weight in kilograms =
= (1.1268 * (mid arm circumference in cm)) + (1.1228 * (hip circumference in cm)) – 72.4104
where:
• R^2 for height is 0.8116
• R^2 for weight is 0.8530
