Le Rouzic et al reported the ESOD score for evaluating a patient with COPD. This can help to identify a patient who is a frequent exacerbator. The authors are from multiple institutions in France.
Patient selection: COPD
A patient with 2 or more moderate or severe exacerbations per year is likely to become a frequent exacerbator.
Parameters:
(1) exacerbation (E), based on any hospitalization during previous 2 years
(2) sputum (S) based on chronic daily production
(3) obstruction (O) based on FEV1 as percent of expected
(4) dyspnea (D) by modified MRC dyspnea scale

• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 4
• A score >= 2 is associated with being a frequent exacerbator.
