Radiation therapy to the pelvis may be followed by erectile dysfunction.
Cancers most affected:
(1) anorectal carcinoma
(2) prostate carcinoma
Risk factors for erectile dysfunction:
(1) higher radiation dose, especially to penile bulb, corpora cavernosa and neurovascular supply to the penis)
(2) chemotherapy
(3) pre-radiation erectile dysfunction
(4) depression, anxiety or distress
(5) hormonal therapy
(6) other concomitant risk factors for ED (diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, medications, etc)
Differential diagnosis:
(1) cancer-related effect
