A male with Peyronie's disease may also have erectile dysfunction.
Patient selection: Peyronie's disease (penile deformity associated with a fibrous plaque involving the tunica albuginea)
Erectile dysfunction tends to increase with the severity of Peyronie's disease and with fibrous plaques in the distal penis.
Early therapy can reduce the severity of the deformity:
(1) type 5 phosphodiesterase inhibitor therapy
(2) injection of collagenase from Clostridium histolyticum
(3) reduction of penile trauma
(4) control of obesity, smoking, hypertension and diabetes
More severe disease can be treated with:
(1) surgery for penile straightening
(2) penile implant for deficient erection
