Description

Urethral trauma may be complicated by subsequent male sexual dysfunction.

Causes of urethral trauma include:

(1) urethral surgery

(2) saddle horn injury

(3) urethral trauma associated with pelvic trauma

Clinical features:

(1) history of urethral trauma

(2) absence of sexual dysfunction prior to trauma

(3) exclusion of other causes of male sexual dysfunction

The impairment in sexual function may be transient.

If the patient has a history of sexual dysfunction and if the cause was a urethral disorder, then surgery may improve sexual function.
