A worker who has absorbed excessive manganese may develop a number of clinical symptoms including erectile dysfunction.
Workers at risk:
(1) miners
(2) ore processors
(3) welders
(4) metal workers
Clinical findings in addition to erectile dysfunction:
(1) fatigue
(2) peripheral neuropathy
(3) tremors
(4) sleep disturbances
(5) hallucinations
(6) mood changes
Features of the erectile dysfunction:
(1) The patient has erectile dysfunction.
(2) There is no better explanation for the dysfunction or the dysfunction is more than can be explained.
(3) The patient has increased body levels of manganese.
(4) Improvement of dysfunction with removal of the excessive manganese.
