Description

Vauthey et al reported equations for predicting the total liver volume of a Western adult. This can help plan management of patients and donors involved in liver transplantation. The authors are from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Universitaire Vaudois (Lausanne), Ospedale San Giovanni (Bellinzona) and Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc (Louvain).

Patient selection: adults in North America and Europe

Parameters:

(1) body surface area in square meters using Mosteller's formula

(2) body weight in kilograms

total liver volume in mL =

= (1267.28 * (BSA)) - 794.41

total liver volume in mL =

= (18.51 * (weight)) + 191.8
