Description

Sun et al reported equations for estimating total body water (TBW) using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). The authors are from Wright State University, Columbia University, Department of Agriculture, University of Wisconsin, and NIH.

Analysis: bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA)

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) weight in kilograms

(3) stature in cm

(4) resistance in Ohms

total body water in a male in liters =

= (0.45 * ((stature)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.18 * (weight)) + 1.2

total body water in a female in liters =

= (0.45 * ((stature)^2) / (resistance)) + (0.11 * (weight)) + 3.75
