Description

Schneider et al developed equations for converting between APACHE II, APACHE III and SAPS II scores. The authors are from Austin Health, Monash University, Alfred Hospital, and ANZICS-CORE in Australia and Uppsala University in Sweden.

APACHE III =

= (3.08 * (APACHE II)) + 5.75

APACHE II =

= (0.63 * (SAPS II)) + 4.37

APACHE III =

= (1.47 * (SAPS II)) + 8.60

These can be rearranged:

APACHE II =

= ((APACHE III) - 5.75) / 3.08

SAPS II =

= ((APACHE II) - 4.37) / 0.63

SAPS II =

= ((APACHE III) - 8.60) / 1.47

Performance:

• When comparable values are put in, comparable values to not always come out. For example, a SAPS II of 25 gives APACHE II of 20 and APACHE III of 45. If an APACHE II of 20 is given then the SAPS II is 25 and APACHE III 67.
