Description

Sanaka et al reported equations for estimating the creatinine clearance of an older adult with muscle atrophy. Its performance was compared to the Cockcroft and Gault formula. The authors are from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University in Tokyo and Sohsen Hospital in Chiba.


Patient selection: Japanese adult from 60 to 92 years of age with chronic muscle atrophy

 

Parameters:

(1) sex

(2) serum albumin in g/dL

(3) serum creatinine in mg/dL

 

For a male:

 

urinary creatinine excretion in mg per 24 hours =

= ((2.695 * (serum albumin)) + 4.665) * (body weight)

 

creatinine clearance in mL per min =

= ((19 * (serum albumin)) + 32) * (body weight) / (100 * (serum creatinine))

 

For a female:

 

urinary creatinine excretion in mg per 24 hours =

= ((1.827 * (serum albumin)) + 4.146) * (body weight)

 

creatinine clearance in mL per min =

= ((13 * (serum albumin)) + 29) * (body weight) / (100 * (serum creatinine))
