Description

Sampson et al reported equations for estimating VLDL cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with normolipidemia or hypertriglyceridemia. The authors are from National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of NIH.

Patient selection: serum triglyceride concentration <= 800 mg/dL

Parameters:

(1) serum total cholesterol in mg/dL

(2) serum HDL-cholesterol in mg/dL

(3) serum triglycerides in mg/dL

non-HDL cholesterol =

= (total cholesterol) - (HDL cholesterol)

serum VLDL cholesterol in mg/dL =

= ((TG) / 8.59) + ((TG) * (non-HDLC) / 2250) - (((TG)^2)/16500)

serum LDL cholesterol in mg/dL =

= ((total cholesterol) / 0.948) - ((HDLC) / 0.971) - ((TG) / 8.56) - ((TG) * (non-HDLC) / 2140) + (((TG)^2) / 16100) - 9.44
