Description

Reid et al reported equations for converting results of the 2-minute walking test to the 6-minute walking distance for patients with unilateral or bilateral amputations. The authors are from the University of Ottawa and Canadian Forces Health Services in Ottawa.

Patient selection: unilateral or bilateral amputations

Parameters:

(1) 2 minute walking distance in meters

(2) ambulation group

(2a) housebound

(2b) limited community ambulator (able to traverse low-level environmental barriers)

(2c) community ambulator able to deal with most environmental barriers

(2d) active

(3) amputation category

(3a) vascular amputee

(3b) traumatic amputee

general equation for all patients for 6 minute walking distance in meters =

= (3.1 * (2MWD)) - 54.5

Group

Equation for 6MWD

housebound and limited community

(3.2 * (2MWD)) - 75.8

community ambulator and active

(2.8 * (2MWD)) - 1.6

vascular amputee

(4.0 * (2MWD)) - 177.4

traumatic amputee

(2.8 * (2MWD)) - 5.8
