Description

Probst et al developed an equation for predicting the incremental shuttle walking distance. The authors are from Universidade Norte do Parana (Londrina, Brazil), Universidade Estadual de Londrina and University Hospitals of Leicester (England).

Patient selection: healthy, 18 to 83 years

Test conditions: 10 meter course, with speed dictated by an audio signal (initial 0.5 m/s, incremented 0.17 m/s each minute, 12 levels)

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) gender (0 if female, 1 if male)

(3) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

predicted distance in meters =

= (-11.735 * (age)) + (241.897 * (points for gender)) - (5.686 * (BMI)) + 1449.701
