Description

Park et al reported equations for estimating body weight of Korean children from age. The authors are from Incheon Sarang Hospital, Seoul National University and Soonchunhyang University in the Republic of Korea.

Patient selection: Korean child <= 14 years of age

Output: mean weight in kilograms

Age Range

Equation

Simplified

< 1 year (< 12 months)

(0.619 * (age in months)) + 4.28

((age in months) + 9) / 2

1 to 4 years

(2.203 * (age in years)) + 9.116

(2 * (age in years)) + 9

5 to 14 years

(4.108 * (age in years)) - 1.610

(4 * (age in years)) - 1

where:

• The simplified equation for < 1 year is the same as the Nelson formula.

• The simplified equation for 1 to 4 years is similar to the Shann formula and the Best Guess formula of Tinning and Acworth.

• The simplified equation for 5 to 14 years is similar to the Best Guess formula of Tinning and Acworth.
