Description

Niewenweg et al reported equations for estimating the height of a Dutch adult at 21 years of age. The authors are from Leiden University.

Interestingly the authors found a secular trend for an increase in height over time. Male height went from 169 cm in 1910 to 185 cm in 2000. Female height went from 157 cm to 172 cm over the same period.

height at 21 years of age for a Dutch male adult =

= (current height) + (0.042 * ((age) - 21)) + (0.0015 * (((age) - 21)^2))

height at 21 years of age for a Dutch female adult =

= (current height) + (0.039 * ((age) - 21)) + (0.0019 * (((age) - 21)^2))

These can be rearranged:

height of Dutch male adult at a certain age =

= (height at 21 years) - (0.042 * ((age) - 21)) - (0.0015 * (((age) - 21)^2))

height of Dutch female adult at a certain age =

= (height at 21 years) - (0.039 * ((age) - 21)) - (0.0019 * (((age) - 21)^2))
