Neder et al reported equations for estimating leg mass in adults. The authors are from Universidade Federal de Sao Paulo - Escola Paulista de Medicina and the University of London.

Patient selection: adult from 20 to 80 years of age

(1) gender

(2) body weight in kilograms

total leg mass for males in kilograms =

= (0.231 * (body weight)) + 6.78

total leg mass for females in kilograms =

= (0.334 * (body weight)) - 0.41

The weight of each leg is 50% of total leg mass.
