Muller et al developed a number of equations for estimating the resting energy expenditure (REE) of adults. The authors are from multiple institutions in Germany.


Patient selection: adults >=18 years

 

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) gender (0 if female, 1 if male)

(3) height in centimeters

(4) body weight in kilograms

(5) fat-free mass (FFM) in kilograms

(6) fat mass (FM) in kilograms

(7) BMI

 

REE in megaJoules per day =

= (A * (weight in kilograms)) + (B * (height in cm)) + (C * (points for gender)) + (D * (age)) + E

 

REE in megaJoules per day =

= (F * (fat free mass in kilograms)) + (G * (fat mass)) + (H * (points for gender)) + (I*(age)) + J
