Description

Morgenstern et al developed equations for predicting total body water (TBW) in pediatric patients. The authors are from Mayo Clinic and Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.

Parameters:

(1) age of the patient

(2) gender

(3) body weight in kg

(4) body height in cm

total body water in liters for an infants from 0 to 3 months of age =

= 0.887 * ((body weight)^0.83)

total body water in liters for female child from 3.1 months to 13 years of age =

= 0.0887 * 0.95 * (((body height) * (body weight))^0.65)

total body water in liters for male child from 3.1 months to 13 years of age =

= 0.0887 * (((body height) * (body weight))^0.65)

total body water in liters for female adolescent from 13.1 to 15 years of age =

= 0.0758 * 0.84 * (((body height) * (body weight))^0.69)

total body water in liters for male adolescent from 13.1 to 15 years of age =

= 0.0758 * (((body height) * (body weight))^0.69)
