Description

Meyer et al reported several equations for predicting energy requirements for a pediatric patient who is being ventilated in the intensive care unit (ICU). The authors are from Imperial College London, University of Crete, South Bank University and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit London.

Patient: pediatric patient on ventilator in ICU, <= 18 years of age

Parameters:

estimated energy requirements in kcal/day if < 3 years of age =

= (48.4 * (weight)) - (0.377 * ((weight)^2)) + (1.22 * (age)) + (6.2 * (age)) + (points for diagnosis category) - (points for diagnostic category for weight) + 309 - 283.7
