Metsios et al reported equations for predicting the resting energy expenditure in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis. The authors are from the University of Wolverhampton, Russell's Hall Hospital, Research Institute in Physical Performance and Rehabilitation (Thessaly) and the University of Manchester.


Patient selection: adult with rheumatoid arthritis (mean age 62 years)

(1) fat free mass in kilograms

(2) body weight in kilograms

(3) age in years

(4) serum C-reactive protein (CRP) in mg/L

= 126.1 * ((FFM)^0.638) * ((CRP)^0.045)

 

REE in kcal per day =

= 598.8 * ((weight)^0.47) * ((age)^(-0.29)) * ((CRP)^0.066)
