Lee et al evaluated total body water in adult Koreans using height, weight and gender. The authors are from Inha University in Inchon, Korea.

Patient selection: Korean adults, with and without hemodialysis

(1) height in centimeters

(2) body weight in kilograms

(3) sex

total body water in liters for a male =

= (0.243057 * (height)) + (0.366248 * (weight)) - 28.3497

total body water in liters for a female =

= (0.262513 * (height)) + (0.232948 * (weight)) - 26.6224

The authors found that several equations for total body water tended to overestimate the volume in Koreans. The equations of Watson et al were closest to the total body water and showed the least bias.
