Lean et al derived equations for estimating percent body fat using simple anthropometric measurements. The authors are from the University of Glasgow.
Method of determining body fat: underwater densitometry
Parameters:
(1) sex
(1) waist circumference in cm
(3) triceps skinfold thickness in mm
(4) age in years
percent body fat for a male =
= (0.353 * (waist circumference)) + (0.756 * (triceps skinfold)) + (0.235 * (age)) - 26.4
= (0.567 * (waist circumference)) + (0.101 * (age)) - 31.8
percent body fat for a female =
= (0.232 * (waist circumference)) + (0.657 * (triceps skinfold)) + (0.215 * (age)) - 5.5
= (0.439 * (waist circumference)) + (0.221 * (age)) - 9.4
