Description

Jung et al developed equations for estimating the weight of a geriatric patient living in Hong Kong based on knee length and mid-arm circumference. The authors are fro the United Christian Hospital in Hong Kong.

Patient selection: Chinese adult > 60 years of age

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) age in years

(3) knee height in cm

(4) mid-arm circumference in cm

estimated body weight of a Chinese male in kilograms =

= (0.928 * (knee height)) + (2.508 * (mid-arm circumference)) - (0.144 * (age)) - 42.543

estimated body weight of a Chinese female in kilograms =

= (0.826 * (knee height)) + (2.166 * (mid-arm circumference)) - (0.133 * (age)) - 31.486

Performance:

• R-square for males was 0.81 with range +/- 9.9 kg

• R-square for females was 0.82 with range +/- 10.1 kg (a range of about 44 pounds).
